Fort Yukon (Gwicyaa Zhee in Gwich’in, meaning "House on the Flats") is a city in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area of the U.S. state of Alaska. Located at the confluence of the Yukon and Porcupine Rivers, it is the largest community in the Yukon Flats region. Situated 145 air miles northeast of Fairbanks and just 8 miles (13 km) north of the Arctic Circle, it is famous for its extreme temperature fluctuations and its historical status as a British outpost on Russian (and later American) soil.
