Welcome to Circle, Alaska: The Paris of the North
Circle (also known as Circle City) is a city in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area of the U.S. state of Alaska. Located at the northeastern terminus of the Steese Highway, it sits on the south bank of the Yukon River. Despite its name, the town is not actually on the Arctic Circle; it was named by early miners who mistakenly believed it was located on the line of latitude, which actually lies about 50 miles (80 km) to the north.Â
